Ceramic tubular membranes are applied in a cross-flow filtration mode to treat the effluent of different industrial processes removing suspended particulate matter, oils and large biological structures like bacteria. These advanced ceramic membranes are manufactured as tubular multi-channel membranes operating in an inside-out filtration mode. By tailoring the membrane properties like pore size and channel geometry the membrane characteristic can be adapted to the specific application specific requirements. Due to the tubular geometry and the cross-flow operation principle this kind of membrane is well suited for demanding industrial application with high dirt loads, aggressive process media and demanding physical conditions. The process media is in a confined space during filtration avoiding contamination by the surrounding or exposure of the operator to harmful substances.
