Inspiring history of BOLL & KIRCH

BOLL & KIRCH has a rich and inspiring history that spans over more than 70 years. Founded in Germany in 1950, the company started out as a small workshop specializing in filter technology for marine engines. Over time, BOLL & KIRCH expanded its product range to include filtration solutions for various industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, power generation and more.

Founding of Boll & Kirch Maschinenfabrik in Cologne - Ehrenfeld by Walter Boll and Josef Kirch.
1953
Boll und Kirch in 1953
First exhibition. Booth in Munich at the „Handwerksmesse“.
1968
BOLL & KIRCH in 1968
Start of production for the new, patented, automatic filter with backflushing support by compressed air.
1974
History BOLL & KIRCH 1974
Initial startup of the first construction stage of the new site in Kerpen-Sindorf.
1976
History BOLL & KIRCH 1976
Execution of the first international agency agreement with Japanese Misuzu Machineries & Engineering Ltd.
1978

Serial production of filter candles – mass production of filter candles using coiled, prestressed support structures.
1979
BOLL & KIRCH offices in 1979
Complete relocation of Boll & Kirch to the industrial area of Kerpen-Sindorf, increasing the production area to 22.000m².
1980

First serial production of automatic filters.
1986

Purchase of the first numerically controlled machine tool, a boring and milling machine moving along four axes.
1993

Patent application for the first turbine driven automatic filter with continuous backflushing adapted for engines.
1995
Marga Boll
Founding of the Marga and Walter Boll Foundation.
2017

Opening of the first international production site (Pinghu PRC), Bollfilter China Manufacturing Ltd.
2017

Market launch of the automatic filter aquaBoll® with patented filter element and backflushing technology.
2020
BOLL & KIRCH plant 2
Completion of plant 2 in Kerpen-Sindorf, intended for the departments of R&D and technical center, as well as spare parts logistics.

Dr. Heinz Lux
The Dr. Heinz Lux Foundation becomes a shareholder of BOLL & KIRCH.
2025
BOLL & KIRCH celebrates a remarkable milestone in 2025: 75 years of innovation, reliability, and dedication to filtration excellence.
